Stan Dodson has been an art educator since 2008, originally Dr. Dodson started out as a print graphic artist and illustrator for the newspaper, The Augusta Chronicle. After more than a decade in graphic design he pursued a career as an artist/educator and currently teaches high school art at Burke County High School where he is also the Fine Arts Department Chair. Dr. Dodson grew up in coastal Beaufort, SC where graduated from Battery Creek High School and also attended the prestigious South Carolina Governors School for the Arts program. He graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration (2000) and is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Masters of Art in Art Education (2014), and Ed.D doctorate in Educational Innovation from Augusta University (2023). In 2010 Dr. Dodson received the Morris Museum of Art Outstanding Teacher in Art Award. In 2011, he was named his school teacher of the year and subsequently in 2012 was named the county teacher of year. In 2015 he was named the Georgia secondary level art teacher of the year and in 2016 and 2019 served as the BCHS STAR teacher, and 2017 BCHS Teacher of the Year.
Dr. Dodson received 2018 Golden Apple award, he is actively involved in the Georgia Art Education Association and is currently the GAEA President. Dr. Dodson plans to continue teaching high school art and continue to grow the advanced levels of his curriculum including the AP studio art courses while nurturing and enriching his comprehensive courses. Additionally, Dr. Dodson serves as and adjunct at August University teaching MAT courses in partnership with the College of Education and Department of Art + Design. Dr. Dodson lives in Augusta, Georgia with his wife, son and daughter and enjoys painting and creating meaningful art experiences. Dr. Dodson strives to share Eliot Eisner’s vision of art as a vehicle through which we view the world, create meaning, and develop our minds. Course instruction:
All 2023-24 classes will meet in person. The primary means for instruction will be in class, studio based, however, assignments and details will be in the Google Classroom. Students should all join the classroom, codes will be provided in person. The classroom provides information on lesson content, due dates, and available course resources. Please contact me if you have difficulty with your Google classroom.
