This is the structure of each week/class assignments:
Welcome to Health/PE/Drivers Ed. Health/PE/Drivers Ed is a semester course (1 credit) and is required for graduation. It is designed to involve the student in discovering ways to evaluate their own personal level of wellness. This course explores the mental-emotional, physical and social aspects of life. In addition, this course is designed to promote student learning with regards to health issues that affect their immediate and long-term health. Maintaining a healthy way of living requires a balance of physical, mental-emotional, and social well-being. Included in this course is the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program (ADAP) which is required to receive a driver’s license in the state of Georgia (you must make at least a 70 to pass the ADAP test). The students will also be taught Erin’s Law (Erin’s Law requires instruction on sexual abuse and assault awareness/prevention education in schools). They will also learn Hands-Only CPR.
Goals: The goal of Health Class is to give students the information they need to live a long, healthy, happy life. Our physical education program has been designed to provide an environment that will instill the importance of fitness throughout life. This is accomplished through the instruction of body mechanics, individual physical activities, team sports, recreational activities, and life skills. Students should be open minded about trying new sports and activities.
30-Hour Driver’s Education instruction (Joshua’s Law): In the classroom students will learn many lessons that will help prepare them for driving. Our units include but are not limited to The Driving task, Controlling your Vehicle, Driving in different Environments, and Being a Responsible Driver. Each unit covers a wide range of topics. Just a few examples include identifying street signs, lane markings and signals, how natural forces affect your vehicle while driving, and general maintenance (you must make at least a 70 to pass the 30- hour Driver’s Education instruction test). Any missed class you are required to make up the work/time. Goal: The 30-Hour Driver Education program at BCHS will provide the students with the knowledge and skills that are needed and required by the State of Georgia. The main objective of this course will be to develop the skills that are necessary for a young driver to have in order to maintain safety on the highways of Georgia and beyond.
I wanted to give you some information about each week in my class. Each week, we will have the same structure with 4 mini-lessons. You will have two weekly formative assessments (Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursday). You will also have a summative assessment every other Thursday on even weeks (week 2, week 4, week 6, etc.). All assignments will be completed using Google Classroom. Students are expected to complete all assignments during class time. A daily assignments are graded and the grade will reflect in the grade.
