About Me and The Course
My name is Ebony Merriweather, and this is my 21st year in the classroom. I am married, and a proud mom of three-one boy (who is a 2024 graduate of BCHS,) and two girls (one who is starting as a freshman this fall.) I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling. I also picked up a love of receiving Amazon boxes at my door, but do not tell my husband :-) My favorite color is royal blue, so I landed the perfect job in this illustrious school system! I am excited to be working with the BEAR NATION, and even more excited to be taking part in your child's educational experience at Burke County High School. I believe in what Burke County High School does and what we will continue to do. I have children here and are products from here, so I know this place is pure magic. I looking forward to a great year of delving into interesting discussion and writing topics and helping your child expand their world views in order to form creative, innovative, problem-solving, and critical thinking individuals who are going to go out into the world and forge a change once they leave us. Let's make it a wonderful year! With the three-tier structure-parents/guardians, teachers, and children standing strong, we can achieve anything set before us!
Tenth grade literature is designed to give students the opportunity to hone their critical thinking skills and to further develop their reading and writing skills. Students will learn to think deeper, read with more clarity, and write critically and logically. They will gain a better understanding of the rhetoric used all around them by analyzing many forms of writing, such as short stories, poems, essays, speeches, and other media. There will also be emphasis on studying English grammar and usage, writing in various styles and from multiple perspectives, analyzing literary devices, refining your research skills, and developing appropriate vocabulary skills.
