Hola!  My name is Ms. Osorio.  I am one of the Spanish 1 teacher for Burke County High School.  I am From Puerto Rico but raised in New York City. Even though, I was raised in the United States and attended high school and college here. I have a passion for my parents’ native tongue which is Spanish.  I received a Bachelor’s of Art and an MAT in Foreign language from Augusta State University.  I have been teaching Spanish since 2007.
I love teaching Spanish and I try to bring my culture into the classroom as much as possible. I incorporate music into the activities I present in class because I find that the students enjoy it and they learn the language better when there is rhythm and movement involved.
I feel that by teaching cultural norms and traditions this bring awareness to the students which in turn they incorporate in their everyday life and makes them more acceptance of differences among cultures. I believe that a good education shapes not only minds, but hearts as well.
My biggest joy is to see the students’ eyes light up when they learn the language while role-playing skits in our class, or when a student tells me that they were able to use what we learned in class and talked to somebody in Spanish!
Learning a new language can be intimidating, but I believe that my enthusiastic, cultural approach to teaching Spanish enables students to acquire language skills in a manner that keeps them interested and motivated.
