Welcome to Healthcare Science Career Pathway!!
Teacher: Mrs. LaQuida Godbee
Welcome to Burke County High School – Healthcare Science Class!
I am so excited about the opportunity to get to know you, and I’m looking forward to a successful and productive school year. My name is LaQuida Godbee and I am married to Ellis Godbee, Jr. and we have four children. This is my 9th year of teaching, but my 5th year at Burke County High School. I taught 5 years at A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet School in their Health Science department teaching all three classes: Introduction to Healthcare Science, Essentials of Healthcare and Health Information Management Medical Office classes and I Love It! I am also a HOSA - Future Healthcare Professional Organization advisor and have been for 9 years. I Love It!!
I am a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Care Management and Valdosta State University with my Master of Education Degree and a Certified Medical Administrative Assistance (CMAA).
The standard curriculum areas and classes:
- Introduction to Healthcare Science - NOT teaching this semester.
- Essentials of Healthcare Science - 1st & 2nd semesters 2025/2026
- Health Information Management - Medical Office -1st semester, (End of Pathway/3rd level)
These health science classes are healthcare related dealing with professionalism, communication, body systems (anatomy & physiology), prevention of diseases and treatments, medical terminology, careers and medical office, customer service, medical records, billing etc.... students do get to experience clinicals in my third level as well as Professionalism Day - wearing scrubs every Wednesday!!
Students are asked to bring the following supplies to school: A 3- ring notebook with paper, dividers, pencils, pens, erasers, 2-highlighters, and optional: 1 box of tissue and hand sanitizer for the class if possible💕. Students are REQUIRED to WEAR SCRUBS on uniform day for professionalism and or clinics outside of the class. Grading, students are expected to complete their assignments by the due dates and times. Most work in class will be on the ICEV platform (for CTAE), in class assignments, presentations, assessments and projects. There will be NO late work on ICEV assignments (students have at least 4-5 days to complete those assignments at their own pace)!! Please be sure to look at your google classroom announcements and resources put in google classroom for both classes!! They are there to help you!!
My classwork policy is that MOST classwork will be completed in class unless completing a group project/lengthy assignment. This helps keep down work being lost, misplaced, and dishonesty (cheating). NO CELL PHONES Monday - Thursday and Free Phone Fridays in the class according to the week's class environment and behaviors!!
