Course Description

 

The skills taught and demonstrated in the classroom / lab will enhance their lives whether the student becomes a general contractor professional and/or a home owner. They will learn lifelong skills. We will Discusses the causes and results of accidents and the dangers of rationalizing risk and Reviews the role of company policies and OSHA regulations in maintaining a safe workplace.

Students will be Introduced to hand tools that are widely used in the construction industry, such as hammers, saws, levels, pullers, vises, and clamps. Explains the specific applications of each tool and shows how to use them properly. Also discusses important safety and maintenance issues related to hand tools. Students will learn about various blueprints and drawings used in the construction trades.  Students will be able to understand how math applies to every aspect of the construction trades and be able complete tasks that are essential to his or her success. The students will learn about the various aspects of rigging.  Students must select and inspect appropriate slings for a lift to fulfill a performance task requirement. Students must determine the proper hitch to be used, and select and inspect appropriate hardware and/or lifting equipment to fulfill performance task requirements.
