Description
In this course, students will continue their learning of the Spanish language by reinforcing the materials they learned in the Level II class as well as moving forward with new topics such as: Conjugation of Verbs in the Present Tense, Present Progressive, Time, Date, Months, Seasons, using phrases such as "Me gusta" (I like), etc. Students will also learn about the cultural norms and perspectives of different Spanish-speaking countries such as Mexico, Spain, Dominican Republic, Cuba, etc.

Food Project
 
Students have 2 options of completing a food project. The students are allowed to pick 2 other partners to help create their project and must bring in a dish on Friday, May 5th. Students were given time on Monday to choose their partners and project options and on Wednesday, they will have the entire class period to research online.
 
Students MUST be responsible in working on project after school hours. No excuses will be made.
 
3rd period students, students who were absent more than 2 days this week, and students directed to complete the food project alternative assignment will find their assignment in another section.

This activity is another translation project in which you must translate a pen pal letter and a recipe from English to Spanish. Previous materials may be added as well so refer to any notes about clothing, preterite tense, food, informal commands, and conditional phrases.

Students were given an assignment in class to complete to either erase any zeroes in the grade book (highest grade possible: 70) or to boost low grades (10 points maximum). If the assignment was not completed/turned in then there is no penalty.

In class, the students paired into groups and were given instructions on finding an outfit for 2 people, Sofia and Eduardo. The students will search Spanish clothing sites to find articles to create an outfit for the 2 characters and then quickly write a sentence about what they are wearing and where they could wear the outfit.

Writing Prompt #10
Students wrote their next writing prompt by telling me what they did over Spring Break. The students must be very detailed and tell me everything they did from the Friday after school up until the Sunday before school started. The students were given an example by seeing what Ms. Vaughan did during her Spring Break.

Peer Review Session
Students were given 25 minutes to finish their Writing Prompt #10 from yesterday and then were prompted to complete the peer review session based on the instructions and rubric given in class.

Remediation Assignment
 
Students who did not turn in or did poorly on their Quarter 3 Project will receive the assignment on Thursday,  March 30th to complete. They are allowed to use their notes and have the entire class period of today and tomorrow to complete. After Friday, no other papers will be accepted except from absent students.
 
This assignment is only a grade booster and can only help the student's grade. If they should not turn the assignment in, it won't penalize them in any way.

Preterite Introductory Test
 
Students took a short test reviewing the preterite tense. They were given time in class to study and then completed the test. They were given extra test if necessary.

Students were given a study guide to review for their test over the preterite tense. The test will given to them on Wednesday March 29th

Independent Study

Students had to transform sentences written in the Present Tense in Spanish into the Preterite Tense in Spanish. Essentially they are only changing the verb to reflect the past tense endings. In addition, they also had to add in a vocabulary word to help indicate the action was done in the past.

For example:

Yo como tacos. (I eat tacos.)

Yo comí tacos AYER. (I ate tacos YESTERDAY.)

They could also translate the sentences into English for extra credit.

On the back side of the sheet is the continuation of practice from the Irregular Preterite Exercise Powerpoint. The 1st slide deals with the verbs “Ser/Ir”, the 2nd slide deals with the verb “Tener”, and the 3rd slide deals with the verb “Hacer” in which they must translate the question and answer for themselves.

Students had the entire class period on Thursday and Friday to complete the assignment. Students who were absent on Thursday may turn in the assignment on Monday.

Interpretive Activity: La Telenovela
 
Students watched various video clips from the telenovela "En Nombre del Amor" and then answered a series of questions interpreting what happened during the video clips and the overall story.

After students who opted to present for extra credit presented their project, the students were given an assignment to review the content learned in Unit 6. The assignment will be given for homework if the students do not finish in class, then it will be considered homework and must be turned in by Friday, March 17th.

Citas Rápidas was an activity in which students used introductory spanish phrases and greetings to make new friends. The students spoke in Spanish to each other and wrote their partner's answers down using the he/she form.
 
Students must interview 6 people (family/friends) and must record the answers in the proper boxes using the he/she form in complete sentences.

Students watched a telenovela (Spanish-soap opera) in Spanish without subtitles. They then had to write a paragraph about what they think happened during the video.
 
Spanish II students watched 2 videos over the course of 2 days. They also used the Powerpoint (below) to review Level I adjectives.
Spanish I students only watched one video.
