PBIS is a systematic approach used to create and maintain a positive school climate. By providing an operational framework for achieving these outcomes, our goal at BCHS is to improve academic success by implementing a pervasive and consistent system for student behavioral expectations. Our framework is based on an approach that includes proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behavior. The "Bear Basics" provides us a matrix of student expectations using the acronym "BEARS - Be Prepared, Excel Academically, Always Be On Time, Respect Everyone, and Show Responsibility". We at BCHS believe that if every student upholds these expectations, academic achievement will occur and exemplary student behavior will be the norm.
In our PBIS program we offer incentives for students through Kodiak Kudos - teachers are encouraged to give out these when students do something EXCEPTIONAL in their classroom. There is a drawing at the end of every week, and these students are entered in a larger drawing for a TV at the end of every 9 weeks grading period. We also have given TVs to students who scored proficient or exceptional on the Accuplacer exam, EOC, and BPA (formerly SLO testing.)
Teachers can also recieve KUDOS by being nominated by students who feel a specific teacher or coach has made a positive impact on them. A teacher name is drawn at the end of every week and they are also rewarded for being inspiring!
