You or your son/daughter is enrolled in Work Based Learning this semester or school year. I am happy to have your son/daughter in WBL and looking forward to an exciting year. It is my goal to provide all students with relevant work experience at our Burke County High School that align with the student’s high school career pathway, post-secondary, and career plans to benefit the student, employer, and community.

To be in WBL, students must complete the WBL/YAP application, and obtain two teacher recommendations.  Students must also complete an orientation with me, and complete all required paperwork. Signing up for Remind to receive messages from me, and checking Google Classroom and school email account are essential for success in this course.

It is paramount to submit Work Calendar, Check Stub, Employer Evaluations, Monthly Assignment, and all other required assignments on or before the due date, and attend the MANDATORY monthly Work Based Learning meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of each month during the scheduled WBL release time.

Students have access to the following CTSOs (Career Technical Student Organizations) at Burke County High School: FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America), FFA (Future Farmers of America) HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), Skills USA, and TSA (Technology Student Association). These CTSOS are all co-curricular student organization that plays an integral part in the components of the CTAE courses in which your son/daughter is enrolled. These activities are incorporated throughout their CTAE courses. Students are strongly urged to join the CTSO to benefit from the wealth of opportunities the organizations offer.

The course syllabus and additional information is posted on my website as well as in Google Classroom. AGAIN, it’s imperative that your student checks their email, logs into Google Classroom daily, and has signed up for REMIND.

I have extremely high expectations of all my students.  I am asking for your help to maintain those expectations by checking with your son/daughter periodically to make sure that his/her work is being done. I am available to help students individually during my office hours Monday-Thursday 7:00-7:30 and 2:45-3:15 by appointment. Please feel free to reach out to me using the contact information listed.

Sincerely,

K. Johnson
