DaShaun McGee is a talented, well-rounded musician who is able to play a variety of musical instruments. He is well versed on the piano, flute, clarinet, oboe and his principal instrument the saxophone. He has studied saxophone under Bryson Borgstedt and Dr. Joren Cain. He was actively engaged in Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Concert Band, and Saxophone Quartet while doing undergraduate work at Valdosta State University. He also took private lessons with Dr. Susan Eischeid where he learned the art of Oboe reed making. He is an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity inc and is also a member of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity. Some of his professional organizations includes Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), National Educators Association (NAE), and North America Saxophone Alliance (NASA). DaShaun became the Director of Bands at Burke County High School in the summer of 2013. Since his arrival the band has grown from 90 students to over 150 students in the band program. His current focus is to continue creating an atmosphere of friendship, competitiveness among the students, and a high sense of goal achievement. Prior to coming to Burke County, he was the Assistant Band Director at Wayne County High School in Jesup GA. While there he revitalize the jazz program and helped start brass and woodwind ensembles. He was also the Assistant Track Coach for the sprinters and the hurdlers.
Some of his hobbies include running, training his dog Candy, and spending time with his wife Monica and their son Kaiden. He received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Valdosta State University and a Master of Music Degree in Wind Band Conducting under the direction of Dr. Robert Dunham at Georgia Southern University. DaShaun earned his Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership at Valdosta State University in fall of 2016.
