Sherri Barajas

Hello, my name is Sherri Barajas and I have been actively serving in the education field for the past 22 years. I have enjoyed the teaching profession and have a deep appreciation for the opportunity mentor so many young lives.

I began my teaching career in Aiken County as the art teacher working between two elementary schools, serving over 2000 students weekly. In 1997. I began teaching in Burke County and for the following twelve years, I served as the art teacher here at the high school. As an artist and teacher, I developed a love of research and enjoyed integrating various technologies and media in my class presentations. I discovered, along with my flare for artistic creativity, I am also quite the techno geek! I guess I would be classified as an artistic geek. I often use technology to create computer-generated images to paint from and I enjoy exploring digital photography, as well as many other technologically expressive media. After careful consideration, I decided to marry these two interests and sought a position as a media specialist.

Upon graduating from Georgia Southern University with an Instructional Technology, M.Ed. with a Level 5 Certification as a Media Specialist, I was blessed with an opportunity to serve as a media specialist BCHS and have been serving in this capacity for the past 10 years. This has been a great challenge for me and I enjoy it very much! It seems I’ve found a cool way to creatively merge my interest in all these areas and still be involved with students and teachers but in a more supportive role.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, my interests are unquenchable. While working my way through undergraduate school, I taught myself to speak Spanish and discovered a love of languages. I often assisted and tutored Latino children within my circle of family and friends. Because of my interest and community involvement, I decided in 2012 to pursue an additional teaching certification in English Speakers of Other languages and received my ESOL certification in 2014.

I also enjoy a very active life outside of my career pursuits also. I am an active artist and enjoy working with adult and budding artists within my community. I love to write poetry, study theology, play bass, and acoustic guitar, restore and refinish old furniture, attend art and historic festivals, travel the world and most of all, I love being a grandmother to two adorable youngsters.

My School Day - During the school day, I can usually be found in the Media Center. My office hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

After School Assistance/Tutorial - I will make myself available to tutor any student, in any subject area, from dismissal at 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. Students staying in the media center after school may not ride the athletic buses home and should arrange to be picked up promptly at 4 P.M.

Painting Angel Wings I

I love and continue to paint on a regular basis. More and more, I find myself using technology to enhance my artistic endeavors. In this instance, I used Adobe Premier, a video editing program, to share oil techniques and painting adventures with past students.
