This class is a general introduction to physics and chemistry. Scientific method, metric conversions, laboratory safety and measurement are stressed. First semester is based on chemical concepts such as atomic structure, element recognition, chemical formula and equation writing, acid-base chemistry and organic chemistry. Second semester is structured around physics concepts such as motion, energy, heat, mechanics, light, color and energy. Students will use problem-solving skills as related to science. The students will participate in hands on and laboratory activities. The skills involved in completing scientific studies will be taught. A science project or research paper is required. This course falls under present Georgia Milestones EOC (End of Course) Assessment guidelines.
